Angela Bassett 2014 Emmys Makeup

Late last night, I shot my first email to celebrity makeup artist D’Andre Michael. I followed him months ago after learning he does makeup for Mary J. Blige, Garcelle Beauvais, Queen Latifah and many more of our favorite celebrities.

I saw a behind-the-scenes snap of him touching up Angela Bassett on Instagram (@dandremichael) and was compelled to introduce myself and my blog. Angela B looked absolutely REGAL, and I wanted to capture her beat for the blog. It would’ve been criminal of me not to ask the master behind the mug.

After I practically begged Mr. Michael for details behind her Emmys makeup look, he sent over an arresting, high-resolution photo, which you can see above. Doesn’t she look like Egyptian royalty? She should have been casted as Queen Tuya in the upcoming Exodus: Gods and Kings but I digress. He also included a complete list of all the products he used, from Ben Nye to his lip gloss line titled U.G.L.Y. Girl Cosmetics. Blaq Vixen Beauty FTW!

U.G.L.Y. stands for Undeniably Gorgeous, Lovely, and Young. Each gloss is formulated with antioxidants and an exotic peach flavor. The line boasts ten shades. You can check out the complete line at  www.uglygirlcosmetics.com.

Of the line, Michael explained to Sophisticate’s Black Hair Magazine, “I love the texture, feel, look and ingredients. There are ten colors, and the formula is not sticky and there are anti-aging properties in it. You can wear them alone, or line your lips and rub them together to blend your liner. You can also put them on top of a lipstick for added shine.”

The following products were all applied with a beautyblender, which Bassett named as part of her foundation routine to Violet Grey. “I fell in love with [the beautyblender] as soon as I tried. You don’t see where the makeup starts and ends.” Michael is also a fan, and told Sophisticate’s Black Hair Magazine earlier this year the pink egg “is the best makeup sponge ever created, and it just makes sense. Its blending and application abilities are unbeatable.”
