Gangsta Boo, who joined fellow emcees Lola Monroe, Trina, and Lil Kim for a hip hop unity photoshoot by celebrity photographer Michael Antonio in 2010 sat down with The Women of Hip Hop last month. The story behind the collaboration is as follows:
I have a nail polish color coming out in October. It’s with Floss Gloss, two dope, dope, dope, really creative chicks [Aretha Sack and Janine Lee] out of San Francisco. I met them as I was performing out there. They were like, “Yo we have a nail polish line blah, blah, blah.” I was like, “I need a color.” [Laughs] And so I just wanted to do something outside of rap and when I met them, it was an opportunity for me to have something like a nail polish line coming out. And it’s going to be titled ‘Gangsta Boo,’ and from that, we’ll see what happens. Like, I want a whole cosmetic line.
Well, get those coins! The founders share a similar story with SFWeekly:
I went to her show, and I slipped the photographer one of our stickers and a bottle of nail polish and was like, ‘Give this to Gangsta Boo, she’s my hero, I just want her to have this,'” Sack says. After the show, Lee tweeted at Gangsta Boo about the polish. The rapper responded, asking if they’d like to collaborate on a color.
