Yesterday I finally picked up the March 2011 issue of Essence Magazine (with Angela Bassett on the cover). I was looking forward to a couple of features in this particular issue – the Essence 2011 Beauty Awards, Angela Bassett’s “Unstoppable” and of course, Amber Riley’s “She’s Every Woman” photoshoot. I shot celebrity makeup artist Saisha Beecham an email after she revealed that she did Riley’s makeup on Facebook.

I am totally grateful that Saisha emailed me back, and I’m able to share this information with you all! She used all NARS Cosmetics. You can check out her Facebook and Twitter.

The inspiration behind the photoshoot was obviously Riley’s idol Chaka Khan. To keep Amber true to Khan’s “divafied” but consistently clean look, Beecham chose to give Amber a soft smokey brown eye. To do this look, you can use NARS Eyeliner Pencil in Mambo as a base. Smudge it out over your entire lid with your finger. Apply NARS Single Eye Shadow in Mekong over Mambo and blend. Can you guess what lashes Amber are wearing in these photos? You’re right if you identified them as Smoke and Mirrors Beauty. I think she might be wearing the Hollywood style.

“Since this was a Spring look, I wanted to give Amber a peachy-kissed cheek. I chose NARS Blush in the ever popular Orgasm shade. You can never miss with this one!” Beecham exclaimed.

“For her lips, we did a great coral color for Spring – NARS Lipstick in Beautiful Liar. But to give her that authentic, Chaka Khan must-have shade, we chose NARS Lipstick in Funny Face, which is a beautiful fuchsia color,” Beecham divulged.
