Rihanna AMAs Makeup
I missed this year’s American Music Awards but thanks to my Instagram feed, I was able to catch the highlights. Of course, Rihanna stole the show. The Empress (as the Navy calls her) won the first-ever Icon Award with a classic cat eye, glowing skin, nude talons…and a smooth doobie. Yes, you read that right: a sleek wrap with bedazzled bobby pins was the look Rihanna chose to accept the special merit award at the American Music Awards. Sanaa Lathan Selfies: Tips & Tricks to Get Her Look
Want Sanaa Lathan selfies? There’s hope — get your best photos yet! Around three hours ago, I received an email on the Oxford Dictionary Word of 2013: “selfie.” Instantly, I thought of reigning selfie queen Sanaa Lathan. The actress is a sexy social media beast with a magnificent mane thanks to celebrity hairstylists Larry Sims and Kim Kimble, respectively. She was instrumental in hyping up her fans for The Best Man Holiday, the long-awaited sequel to 1999’s The Best Man. To quote Margena A. Christian’s “Return of the Black Pack” in the November 2013 issue of Ebony: For Holiday, Lee had to up the PR ante, but like a pro, he rose to the…

Color Story: Garcelle Beauvais’s Disco Makeup
Celebrity makeup artist Troy Jensen (one of my faves) recently shared his take on Saturday Night Fever by tapping actress Garcelle Beauvais to be his “Disco Muse.” Drawing inspiration from 70’s goddess Donna Summer, Jensen transformed Beauvais with dramatic black eyes and glossy bold lips. The black cream…

MAC Viva Glam Rihanna: Black Women Love Her!
Soon as it was announced that Rihanna was MAC’s new spokesperson for their wildly popular Viva Glam campaign for 2014, many criticized the Canadian brand’s lack of ingenuity. 2013 was Rihanna’s bitch, to paraphrase a line from her infamous song “Birthday Cake.” And now, her next target is 2014’s MAC Viva Glam campaign. And I’m here for it! Both MAC Viva Glam Rihanna Lipstick and Lipglass are described as a “blue-red with frost finishes.” Normally, I shy away from lip products with frost finishes, but I hear that this particular one is ultra-flattering on a multitude of skin tones. I do not own her coveted lippie for a cause yet,…
