Black-Owned Highlighters For Total Glow-balization
This compilation of black-owned highlighters for deeper skin tones has been in draft for a bit. At first, I wanted to showcase great highlighters that looked beyond on richer skin tones. If you follow any makeup Instagram accounts, then you know highlighters are, well, lit (pun intended). Inspired, I created this quick list identifying highlighters from black-owned businesses. Every entry featured is on my shopping list. My roundup is quite small, but our fellow entrepreneurs are launching new beauty businesses daily. It’s only a matter of time before I can provide a more impressive list of glow-getters. Staying faithful to my focus on black celebrity beauty, I have tracked down several black…

Kerry Washington Nude Lipsticks: 14 & Counting
Kerry Washington nude lipsticks: let’s examine. Kerry Washington’s signature pinky-nude lipstick as Olivia Pope is pretty epic so I thought I’d continue the trend by identifying similar shade she’s worn throughout the years. She sets the standard for habitual nude lipstick wearers everywhere, wouldn’t you say? This dimension, as celebrity makeup artist Sam Fine prefers, is what makes a nude lipstick truly ready-to-wear for brown skin. Nude shades and pink (tones) can get lost against rich skin tones, so I use brown lip liner for definition. Our Shade of Brown: The Blaq Vixen Beauty Review
Blaq Vixen Beauty reviews Our Shade of Brown. After weeks of playing around with the first installment of Our Shade of Brown, two beauty trends you can easily try are hot pink lips and a smooth, satin complexion, courtesy of Big Girl Cosmetics Lip Shine and Yana Cosmetics Satin Finish Foundation, respectfully. Natural/Organic Beauty | Our Shade of Brown A prevalent theme in this first pillow box is the natural/organic beauty motif. Four out of five products are organic with the exception of the lip shine. Then there’s the price—you won’t find too many beauty boxes that cost $10/month and offer great products that work well for women of color. Overall, for their first effort, I’d say Our Shade of Brown shows promise. In future installments, I hope Our Shade of Brown continues to include brands of this caliber. In the meantime, score fuchsia lips and satin skin!

What’s Your Nude Bra Campaign for Brown Skin
Perhaps I’m not the target consumer in Tara Raines’ “What’s Your Nude?” campaign (which officially kicks off today) as I prefer bras (and lingerie) in either black, red or various jewel tones, not exactly nude or brown. I guess I’ve given up on this front. If I want to wear an optic white-on-white outfit, a scandalous, sheer number (ha!) or even my digital camis during drill weekend, I would prefer a seamless set of brown girl nude underwear. However, this reads as another urban beauty legend. Trying to find a high-quality, everyday bra in your specific skin tone treads in “the pursuit of happiness” territory. In her Women’s Wear Daily interview,…
