What do Chaka Khan and Jody Watley have in common? Both love NARS Cosmetics!
I own a few lip products from NARS Cosmetics that I absolutely love. Bad Education Lip Gloss was my first splurge. Dragon Girl Velvet Matte Lip Pencil was the next shade to find a home in my makeup bag. I saw Cassie wearing Funny Face Lipstick in Vibe Magazine, so I snatched it up. Thanks to Kerry Washington, I bought Terre De Feu Pure Matte Lipstick. Valparaiso Pure Matte Lipstick is similar, so I bought it too. Downtown is a unique purple gloss. Heat Wave, a hot blood-orange, is missing in action.
Let’s see which NARS products these divas stan for!
Chaka Khan Loves NARS Cosmetics: Damned Velvet Matte Lip Pencil and Demon Lover Eyeshadow Duo
Chaka Khan recently posed for Ebony Magazine for their “They’re Sexy and They Know It” feature. The Queen of Funk-Soul served while dressed in brilliant white for the shoot. There was no mistake why the petite powerhouse has remained current and adored for years.
Beauty-wise, she named NARS Damned Velvet Matte Lip Pencil as her signature lip. Damned, a bold magenta, complements Khan’s wine locks perfectly. “Color means so much to me. It really affects my mood,” she confessed. This is clear by her love of another NARS product: Demon Lover Eyeshadow Duo. This bold pairing boasts a pearly storm blue and a deep, matte indigo.
Jody Watley Loves NARS Cosmetics: Falbala Lipstick…and More!
In October 2011, Beautylish’s Dre Brown hosted the “Brown Girl Beauty Uncensored” panel at The Beauty Social. Brown girl beauty icon Jody Watley was in attendance. She is the godmother to today’s leading musical fashionistas. Ms. Watley has a great career as a noted pop/R&B pioneer.
When Brown asked Watley about her beauty “bag of tricks,” Watley named “divine” NARS Lipstick in Falbala, a soft, shimmering rose. She wore Falbala topped with MAC Viva Glam V Gloss for her spot on CNN Sunday with Don Lemon in February 2012.
In October 2012, she attended the Los Angeles opening of NARS Cosmetics Boutique. On her blog, she recounted when she first became a fan of the brand. Was Watley the inspiration for NARS’s Larger Than Life collection? It’s plausible!
[Francois Nars and I] met in 1989 when he did the [makeup] for my second album ‘Larger Than Life’ photographed by Steven Meisel – I hadn’t seen or worked with him since. I’ve been a fan of his line and faithful customer since it launched in 1994.
Other NARS products she talks about are Rouge Tribal Larger Than Life Lip Gloss, Odalisque Larger Than Life Lipgloss, Jardin De Plantes Satin Lip Pencil, More Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil and Afghan Red Lipstick.
